A HiFi audio system developed through the use of totally new 3D-integration processing technology.

2 May 2007

Foster Electric Co. is pleased to announce a new sound system compatible not only with conventional 2-channel sources, but with multi-channel sound ones.

This sound focuses on the sound quality exceeding 2-channel stereo reproduction, or the standard HiFi sound, and reproduction of a natural sound field where listeners feel free from consciousness of the presence of loudspeakers. A circuit enhancing two or more channels into an integrated form of three channels (analog or digital processed) and a 3D-integrated speaker.

3D-integration processing2

Three different type of systems are available. Main differences are circuit composition:

1. Analog Tri-Phonic System/ATPS
2. Digital Tri-Phonic System/DTPS (a DSP version of ATPS)
3. Digital Tri-Phonic System II/DTPS II
*DTPS II is a joint-development with DiMAGIC Co.

Great improvement in sounds which normally localize at the center, such as main vocal, main musical instruments and narration, unlike conventional 2-channel stereo reproduction, will characterize this technology. In an environment where a small 1-box can only be placed or where the space available for a pair of right and left speakers is not sufficient, extensive spaciousness will be felt in reproduced sound. Another advantage of this system is a sense of natural localization and presence which could not be pursued by previous front surround or virtual surround technology. Listeners will feel great improvement with the quality of sound at off-center positions.

Our original development for HiFi equipment, application fields lead to others such as AV systems, portable audio devices, personal computers and cell phones, as well as HiFi audio systems.

Wireless speaker systems operating on a 2.4 GHz band.

15 May 2006

Foster Electric Co. has developed a wireless active speaker system of CD-quality sound which operates on a 2.4 GHz band.

The employed transmission system is of a non-compressed digital type operating on a 2.4 GHz band.
Our exclusive D-class amplification technology is employed for the receiver/amplifier and the power supply of a low noise switching type developed for use in audio applications.
The infrared remote control makes easy in control of the wireless speakers (power and sound volume).

These wireless speaker systems will be suitable at many places and occasions such as home theaters, headphone listening, TV watching, game playing, many types of events and family pleasure (at terrace, living room, dining table, etc.).

An active speaker system employing high speed power line communication technology has been developed.

16 Mar 2006

Foster Electric Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Materials Corp. have jointly developed an active speaker system which employs high speed power line communication (HSPLC) technology.

This active speaker system is driven by signals transmitted from a remote room via power lines laid inside buildings, with the signal being high speed digital data superimposed on the power line.

With previously available 2.4 GHz band wireless systems, transmission of signals through a ferro-concrete wall is difficult, or, if not, the distance is limited to about 10 meters depending on obstacles present in a room. With this new HSPLC system, however, in contrast to such conventional technology, a distance of 10 meters or a little farther creates no problems regardless of whether a wall exists through which signals have to propagate, if power lines are laid.
To use this new system, no more than mere insertion of an AC plug into an AC outlet is necessary, without affecting the appearance of the room. Users of this system can stay totally free of worries about troublesome laying of power lines. The power lines already laid are sufficient to employ this system.

Shown above is an HSPLC active speaker system using a magnetostrictive actuator.

Currently in Japan, a communication system employing high speed power line communication technology is not permitted and a feasibility study is being conducted by a group organized within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

The following represents typical specifications for a 50W stereo system:

No Item Spec.
1 Communication system Multiple carrier system
2 Audio quality 16 bit 44.1 kHz sampling, 2 channels
3 Rated output 50W+50W 4Ω (1% THD)
4 Frequency response 10 Hz - 20 kHz
5 Distortion 0.05%
6 S/N 83 dB (with the rated output, IHF-A)

A giant magnetostrictive active speaker has been developed.

16 Mar 2006

Foster Electric Co., Ltd. has successfully developed an active speaker of a totally new concept, applying high speed response characteristics and a high level driving force, which are features of giant magnetostrictive materials.

This new concept speaker, needing no speaker cabinet and characterized by its features of space effectiveness and freedom from restriction in its layout, turns locations such as tables, bar counters and floors where this speaker is placed into a speaker. Rich and ample amount of bass tones produced by its high level driving capability provides this speaker system with a versatile range of use such as music listening pleasure, BGM, presentations and amplification of microphone signals.

NEW TECHNOLOGY SPEAKER DIAPHRAGM MATERIAL MADE FROM ULTRA-THIN PURE MAGNESIUM FOIL

7 June 2004

Foster Electric Company, Limited of Tokyo Japan has succeeded in developing an ultra-thin diaphragm material for loudspeakers made from ‘pure’ magnesium foil as a world first. This new process involves coil material as thin as 30-microns, which is rolled out by continuous warm rolling with the cooperation of MITSUBISHI STEEL MFG. CO., LTD.
